Finding Avenue Oh

Back when we were looking to launch our digital publishing company, but before we had a name, Nicole and I were walking around Georgetown.

When we found ourselves crossing O Street, Nicole said, “Now if I lived here, I’d definitely want to be on O Street.”  And she didn’t say it because of the neighborhood.

O Street.  Sure.  How promising.

But when we tried O Street as a website, it looked like ostreet and lost all that O punch.  Not to mention how that solitary letter might make people think of Oprah, which we certainly didn’t want.

So we thought about it some more and realized that when we wrote about someone climaxing, it wasn’t spelled O, but Oh.  By that time, Street was starting to sound too hard edged anyway, so we went onto other Oh ideas.

A couple months later, we were in Florida, driving through Riviera Beach, and there was Avenue O.  Which we really liked the sound of.

Turns out there’s also Avenue O in Brooklyn.

We found a street sign and happened upon an artist who understood what we were talking about and … well, come sunrise, there was Avenue Oh. Everything a woman could ask for.
